Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen loved playing rough sporting games when she was a kid and excelled in sports. Her natural ability to perform was the perfect match for her love of athletics. Her talent was exemplified by getting almost every Feis prize for drama and performances in the theater that her nation offered. Her acceptance was at the Abbey Theater by age 14 in which she was able to pursue her dream of performing in classical and opera. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after watching the Maureen screen examination. He was captivated by her beautiful eyes. Laughton as well as his friend Erich Pommer changed Maureen FitzSimons names changed her name to "Maureen O'Hara" which was a shorter name to be used on the marquee. They then cast her as an actress in Jamaica Inn, (1939). Maureen was in contract with Laughton to film her next movie in America with RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1939). Her contract with Laughton was acquired by RKO following this film was a great success. When she was 19, Maureen was already in two motion-picture films alongside Laughton.
